Dr. Amira Jadoon is a global thought leader in terrorism, political violence, and counterterrorism strategy, with more than a decade of experience shaping scholarship, teaching, and policy debates. From 2017 to 2022, she served as a professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, leading the Combating Terrorism Center’s South and Central Asia portfolio.
Jadoon’s research explores the multifaceted consequences of counterterrorism and security strategies, terrorist group dynamics and the strategic dissemination of disinformation, with a special focus on militant groups in South and Central Asia, most notably the Islamic State Khorasan. She is the author or co-author of multiple books, including The Islamic State in Afghanistan and Pakistan (Lynne Rienner, 2023), Why Insurgent Groups Kill Americans (Oxford University Press, 2025), and The Islamic State’s Global Provinces in Comparative Perspective (Columbia University Press, 2026). Her work has appeared in leading journals including Security Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, and International Studies Quarterly, and has been cited widely in outlets such as The New York Times, BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera, and The Washington Post. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and research reports on terrorism, disinformation, delivering numerous briefings and talks to policymakers, military officials, and intelligence practitioners across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Jadoon is a tenured professor of Political Science at Clemson University, and the founder and editor of Durand Dispatch, a security intelligence platform providing timely analysis on South and Central Asia. She also serves as a Nonresident Fellow at the Stimson Center, and is an Associate Editor at the European Journal of International Security. Jadoon is also leading two major U.S. government–funded projects examining the linkages between disinformation, violent extremism, and security cooperation. In 2022, Jadoon was named by CSIS as one of 50 honorees on the U.S. National Security & Foreign Affairs Leadership List. Jadoon is fluent in Urdu, Hindko, and Punjabi, and well versed in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Prior to her academic career, Jadoon worked as a consultant at Deloitte London, UK.
Dr. Jason Warner is an internationally renowned scholar of African security, terrorism, and transnational crime, widely recognized for his research on jihadist movements across the African continent and the evolving dynamics of great-power competition. From 2016 to 2022, he served as a professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he also directed Africa research at the Combating Terrorism Center.
Warner’s research examines terrorism, militant tactics, and great-power competition in Africa and beyond. His current work focuses on the “whole of military” instruments used by China and Russia to expand influence in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia. His earlier research analyzed the strategies and tactics of Al-Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in Africa as well as African states’ foreign policies in international institutions. Warner is the author or editor of three books, including The Islamic State in Africa: Emergence, Evolution, and Future of the Next Jihadist Battlefront (Oxford University Press, 2022), and The Islamic State’s Global Provinces in Comparative Perspective (Columbia University Press, 2026). He has also co-edited African Foreign Policies in International Institutions (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018, with Timothy Shaw). Warner's work has appeared in leading journals including Security Studies, International Studies Quarterly, and Terrorism and Political Violence, and has been cited widely by The New York Times, BBC, The Economist, CNN, and The Washington Post.
Currently, Warner is the Research Director and Senior Africa and Terrorism, Transnational Crime Analyst at the U.S. Army’s Foreign Military Studies Office (FMSO), part of TRADOC G-2. He is also a Senior Associate with the CSIS Africa Program, a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations, and an adjunct professor at American University and Penn State University. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of Operational Environment Watch, FMSO’s monthly publication that leverages local-language reporting to understand international perspectives on global security.
